Moffat gripped by crochet craze

MAGGIE Dickson has created a crochet craze in Moffat with her cute and cuddly creations.

Her plushy toys have become something of a collector’s item within the town and are flying off the shelves at Rosefield on Well Street. The trend has come as bit of surprise to Maggie, who took up the hobby a few years ago. This week she said: “I have been crocheting for the last couple years now, it started of as a way to keep my hands busy and I started making these little plushies of cats, dinosaurs, panda, bees and a few other kinds and it seems to have taken off.

“The younger kids at the academy really like them, which is great because I made them specifically for kids. They’re always saying how cute they are and it’s a really good feeling.

“I’m completely self-taught but I was never really crafty growing up, my mum liked to knit and embroider but it never really interested me. “Like I said, I took it up to keep myself busy, but I think hobbies like crochet and other ‘fuddy duddy’ hobbies are becoming more popular because there’s all sorts of trends on Facebook and Instagram.”

As Maggie works to replenish her stock, she wants to thank everyone who has supported her and she added: “The girls at the shop have been very supportive and I’m really grateful to them and to everyone who’s bought a plushy.

“I’ve actually had a few parents and kids approach me whilst I’ve been at the shop and ask for lessons, which is something I’ll have to look into down the line, it would be nice to go into the school and do some workshops and maybe meet my wee fan club too.”
