THE Kirkconnel Activity and Resource Centre (ARC) celebrated its 50th anniversary last week.
The ARC is one of six centres across the region that offer a programme for adults with additional needs, to offer independence.
Since 1975, Charles Waddell, Elizabeth Hiddlestone, Pauline Valance and William Campbell have supported the ARC – making their presence at the 50th anniversary celebration extra special.
“A great deal has happened in 50 years, and it’s incredibly heartening to think that the four service users who have been part of this journey since the centre opened in 1975 have had this invaluable support resource as a shared piece of their history for half a century,” said Cllr Malcolm Johnstone, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s civic head, when addressing event attendees.
The celebration also included reflections, live music by Conor Johnston, and the presentation of a 50th-anniversary keyring to attendees. While the ARC celebrated its long-standing commitment, there are many staff and supporters who were also celebrated for their work.
