Tammy replaces long-serving physio Gavin

QUEEN of the South has announced changes to its backroom staff.

It comes after Dumfriesshire-born Tammy McWhirter has arrived at Palmerston as their new head physiotherapist.

Tammy, from Thornhill, has recently qualified from university and has previous physio experience in a host of sports.

And Tammy was busy during her home debut whenHarry Cochrane needed attention after a 50-50 challenge.

For eight years, Gavin Lee has been an entrusted member of the Queens backroom staff – but has decided to leave the Doonhamers to join Championship side Hamilton Accies.

A club spokesman said: “Gavin departs with the best wishes of everyone at the club, many of whom are sorry to see him go. Having been with us for eight years, he was an entrusted member of the team. After joining from St Mirren, he proved to be a professional and talented physio who often went above and beyond.

“However, as one door closes another opens and we welcome Tammy. Recently qualified from Sheffield Hallam University, she has previous sports physio experience having worked with rugby, hockey, and netball teams.

“Born in Thornhill, Queens are her local side and as a keen sports fan she has always liked to see us do well. And now Tammy’s part of the team and she is looking forward to playing her part in the club’s success.”
