CCTV cameras in Moffat’s Station Park are out of commission following recent bouts of anti-social behaviour.
The cameras were installed in the park in August 2022 by Dumfries and Galloway Council in response to three serious incidents and concern from residents.
But after the latest bout of anti-social behaviour, a council spokesperson confirmed that the cameras had been ‘interfered with’, stating: “Our council was made aware of anti-social behaviour and vandalism within Station Park, Moffat on Monday morning, 3 March. “Our community assets team responded immediately and cleared debris they found around the park.
“We are aware that the CCTV cameras have been interfered with, and we are actively working with Moffat Community Council to ensure they are in full working order.
“Our community assets manager for Annandale and Eskdale liaised with the chair of Moffat Community Council, Liam O’Neill.”
He went on: “The camera installation is an initiative between the community council and a local business who installed them. The company is reviewing the images from the weekend to see if any evidence could be drawn from the CCTV to identify those responsible for the anti-social behaviour.”
Meanwhile, Annandale North Councillor Lynne Davis is keeping an eye on the situation. She said: “I reported this to the Community Assets Team who acted very quickly to come out to the park to clear the debris etc.
“I notice that this seems to be an ongoing occurrence most weekends and do know that the CCTV is not working so I have reported this to the council.”
