New Lockerbie home for mountain rescue vehicle

A MOFFAT Mountain Rescue (MMR) team vehicle will now be stored at Lockerbie fire station, thanks to a new partnership.

The collaborative effort between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and MMR will see the mountain rescue’s incident command Mercedes Sprinter stored at the community fire station to ensure quick mobilisation during emergencies as many of MMR’s drivers live and work within Lockerbie.

Annandale and Eskdale Station Commander Colin Wallace commented: “This partnership will provide SFRS staff with greater insight into MMR’s extensive operational capabilities, strengthening working relationships through shared understanding and joint training.

“This innovative collaboration enhances training opportunities and deepens awareness of each organisation’s roles, ultimately contributing to a safer community and a faster, more effective response to incidents through stronger partnership working.”

The vehicle was moved into the fire station last Thursday, giving both teams the opportunity to meet and introduce themselves and familiarise themselves with each other’s emergency response vehicles.

MMR team leader James Coles expressed his thanks to Lockerbie SRFS, adding: “Moffat Mountain Rescue Team would like to thank Scottish Fire and Rescue for the offer to house one of the team’s vehicles inside Lockerbie Fire Station. This gives the team additional flexibility in the storage and deployment of the team’s vehicles. Moffat Mountain Rescue team has three vehicles with now the options to have them located in Moffat, Dumfries –courtesy of Police Scotland– and in the team’s base in Moffat.”
