Pancake mania

OVER 130 people attended a flipping good pancake afternoon at Locharbriggs.

The community centre association committee hosted the free event last Friday, which was packed to the rafters.

John Caskie, centre chairman, welcomed all and hoped they’d have an enjoyable afternoon.

There was a special welcome accorded to Mrs Graham and the P7 pupils of Locharbriggs Primary School, who were the afternoon’s guests of honour.

The pupils sang songs along with poems and jokes all on a pancake theme.

The afternoon started with the assembled crowd being served drop scones and teas/coffee before sweet filled crepes, with various fillings, were made on the premises and served to all.

With only two pancake pans, John and fellow cook Ruth McNaught made 47 crepes in an hour.

The free afternoon was put on for the community, and supporters and friends of Locharbriggs Community Centre.

Invited guests included members of Heathhall Community Centre and Community Council, Provost and councillor Maureen Johnstone, Colin Smyth MSP, John Cooper MP, and members of Dumfries and Galloway Community Safety Team.

A donation box raised £316 for centre funds.

Mr Caskie commented on the community spirited afternoon, the enjoyment having the LPS pupils attend and perform, and thanked the hard working LCCA committee and volunteer helpers that served, set up the hall and cleared at the end of an enjoyable day.

The next event at Locharbriggs Community Centre is the Irish themed afternoon of music, song and dance on Sunday March 23, from 2 pm-4.30 pm

The LCCA host their annual Easter bingo on Friday, April 18 from 7.30 pm.
