Lockerbie visit for Moderator

THE Moderator of the Church of Scotland will spend two days in Lockerbie next week.

Rt Rev Dr Shaw Paterson will visit the air disaster memorial in Dryfesdale Cemetery and Tundergarth Church on Monday.

On Tuesday, he will also tour Steven’s Croft power station and meet local church officials to hear about their work and challenges.

It is part of a wider tour of the South West presbytery, and also includes visits to Dumfries, Castle Douglas and Wigtown.

The Rt Rev Dr Shaw Paterson says he is looking forward to learning more about the area.

‘IF’ is the title of this poem, written to mark the end of WWI munitions work at Mossband in Gretna in 1919. The only clue to the author are the initials DME, but it’s dedicated to the ‘girls of the cordite laboratory, Mossband. It goes:
