Time for tennis a tad slower

A NEW walking tennis group will start in Lochmaben next week, offering the game at a slower pace.

The first session will be held at the town’s tennis club on Friday, April 18.

Club treasurer Deborah Bodell said: “The club are delighted to launch a walking tennis group. It is played with a slower ball and two bounces allowed and we hope players of all abilities will enjoy both the tennis and tea afterwards.”

Coach Ryan Galloway will be assisting with the group and added: “Walking tennis is a great way to get moving and be active. Anyone of any ability is welcome to come and have a go or just to watch to see what it’s all about.”

The new group has been welcomed by the health and wellbeing team at Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Leader Tina Lockhart said: “I am really pleased to hear about the new walking tennis plans for Lochmaben Tennis Club.

“Our Active Communities programme supports adult and older adults to move more, increase their strength, balance, and general wellbeing, so the introduction of another local opportunity to stay active, in the great outdoors, is such good news for our region. We look forward to working with Lochmaben Tennis Club to encourage participation as part of our Active Lives Pathway.”
