Beauty advisor recognised for community work

A NO7 beauty advisor from Dumfries has won an award recognising her outstanding voluntary work with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lyndsey Mutch, 43, who lives in Calside, has been presented with the inaugural Florence Boot Award by employers Boots and the No7 Beauty Company.

She beat 52,000 other nominees nationwide to take home the honour, which was launched in memory of Florence Boot, wife of Jesse Boot who transformed the business founded by his father, and who was dedicated to community work.

Lyndsey, who has worked at Boots on Dumfries High Street for a decade, impressed the judges with the number of voluntary community activities she had taken part in over the last year.

After training to become a Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisor, Lyndsey connected with the local Macmillan Breast Cancer Support Group to provide make-up and skincare tutorials for those affected.

She also delivered a skincare tutorial to clients of a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation service; and led a six-week programme of skincare and makeup workshops for a group of disadvantaged pupils at a local secondary school.

Furthermore, she supports a group of transwomen who visit her store, helping them to explore their identity through cosmetics.

Reacting to her win, Lyndsey said: “I was so overwhelmed when I was told I’d won the Florence Boot award amongst all the incredible nominees here at Boots.

“Working at Boots gives me great opportunities to support members of my local community, and I feel fortunate that I’m able to help them feel a little better during difficult times.

“The best part about working as a No7 advisor is helping to give someone a confidence boost, so I thought why not offer that to those who need and deserve it the most. I’m excited to continue my community work this year, with plans to do more with a local hospital and the elderly.”

Congratulating her, Mark Millar, director of stores for Scotland said: “It was thoroughly deserved and a great example of the community values of Florence Boot.

“We were inspired by Lyndsey’s passion for supporting those in her community to feel more confident through the skills she has learned. It’s fantastic that Lyndsey has gone above and beyond in her support of the work of Macmillan in her community.”
