Ten in ten for runner Adam

MARATHON man Adam MacKellar has completed the mammoth task of running ten marathons in ten days, raising over £4000 for Cash For Kids.

Beginning on April 4, the challenge saw him running six and a half laps of a four mile circuit from the Whitesands to Kingholm Quay and back each day.

HE’S OFF . . . Adam set off for his final marathon on Sunday morning

And for his final run on Sunday family, friends and colleagues came out to cheer on the father-of-two as he set off, before being joined by fellow runners from Dumfries Running Club and Dumfries Harriers. Adam said: “This was by far the most enduring thing I have ever done and the training has really put me in the right place and all I needed to do was run.

“My family played an integral part and really have kept me fuelled up and ready to run every four mile lap. Not only have Dumfries Running Club ran with me, taking turns to keep me going, but I have had help from teaching colleagues and neighbouring running clubs: Hartfell, Dalbeattie and Dumfries Harriers.

“The most special running support has been from everyone giving up their time but also family coming to lend a hand run a lap or coming to cheer me on. This really has been a team effort and everyone is playing a part and it is important to me and I am very appreciative of every effort that the team put in to make this all happen.”

GOING THE DISTANCE . . . Adam has been joined by dozens of fellow runners during his marathon challenge

In total Adam raised £4534.75 for Cash for Kids, which will be put towards alleviating poverty, supporting disability and improving quality of life within the region.

Expressing his gratitude to everyone who has supported him throughout his marathon challenge, Adam added: “I have been a teacher for 16 years, mainly in Dumfries and Galloway. So it was important to me to pick a charity that was going to be beneficial to children and young people.

“During this challenge I have had tremendous support from people cheering me on or joining me for a lap.

“But I’m looking forward to getting a bit of a rest and to spend some time having fun with the family and making new goals.”
