£1 million road scheme enters final phase

RESURFACING works along the A75 near Mossyard are enters its final phase on Tuesday.

The work carried out by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland has been on-going since 2024 as part of a wider investment of around £1 million to improve infrastructure on the trunk road.

Work will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption, with full road closures in place between 8 pm and 6 am, and daytime Temporary Traffic Lights (TTLs) operating while the road is cooling. The daytime TTLs will also ensure the safety of road users passing through the extents of the scheme.

The programme of overnight works will operate on the following dates:

  • Tuesday April 22 – Thursday May 1 between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am each night.
  • Friday May 2 and Saturday May 3 between 10 pm and 6 am each night.
  • Monday May 5 – Wednesday May 7 between 8 pm and 6 am each night.

There will be no overnight work on Sunday May 4 and daytime temporary traffic lights will also be in operation between Tuesday 22nd April and Friday 2nd May. All traffic management will be removed by 6am on Thursday 8th May 2025.

While the night-time closures are in place, the following signed diversion route will be in place:

  • Southbound traffic will leave the A75 at Castle Douglas, take the A713 north to Ayr and the first exit at Bankfield Roundabout on to the southbound A77. They will then continue to Girvan to take the second exit at Shallochpark Roundabout on to the A714 and re-join the A75 at Newton Stewart.
  • Northbound traffic will follow the route in reverse.

Access for residents and businesses, including caravan park guests, remains a key priority, with local access arrangements in operation throughout the works. Additional measures, such as dedicated shuttle services and special arrangements for key events, have also been made to minimise inconvenience.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works, under escort.

Brian Park, Operating Company Representative for Amey, said: “We understand the concerns raised by local businesses and residents, and we’re grateful for their ongoing patience. While these works are essential, we’ve taken every possible step to reduce the impact by coordinating access, enhancing communications, and delivering the project in a more sustainable way. When complete, this section of the A75 will offer a smoother, safer and more resilient route for all road users.”
