Town sends clear message to dog owners

OVER 20 new bag dispensers have been installed around Moffat, as part of a new campaign against dog fouling.

It is initiated by the Moffat Town Centre Map Group, led by Roy Anderton-Tyers, and supported by the Moffat and District Community Council and the Town Hall Redevelopment Trust.

The 26 new poo bag dispensers have been made by Moffat Men’s Shed and have been placed at locations popular with dog walkers, including parks, core paths and other open spaces.

Speaking on behalf of groups involved in the campaign, community stalwart Leys Geddes said: “The vast majority of owners pick up after their dogs – but a few irresponsible owners spoil things for the rest of us. Yet, there is no excuse for not picking up after your dog.

“Some owners just walk off, leaving it there, pretending it’s nothing to do with them. But, as everyone else will tell you, the sight of uncollected dog poo is disgusting – and the prospect of an adult, or worse, a child, treading in it, and spreading it around is repulsive. “Moffat is a beautiful place, for residents and visitors alike, so don’t let a selfish attitude spoil our streets, our walks, our countryside and our reputation.

“Everyone who takes bags should remember, please, that you should also contribute bags, so the dispensers are always well stocked.

“Those who don’t pick up will therefore have no excuse – and the reputation of Moffat’s dog owners will no longer be at risk. Give and take is our motto.”
