Eastriggs woman in running for national role

A LONG-time teacher and respected community member from Eastriggs is stepping into the spotlight as she campaigns for election to the National Members’ Council of Co-op stores.

Retired teacher Jane Green spent over two decades working at schools in Annandale.

She is now one of seven Scottish candidates – and the only one from Dumfries and Galloway – vying for the position on the National Members’ Council.

The council plays a vital role in shaping the future of the Co-op, by ensuring that member voices are heard and that ethical, community-focused values remain at the heart of the business.

It is made up of 100 people, including Co-op Member-Owners, colleagues and people from other Co-op societies, and they come from all walks of life.

Members meet regularly and provide input on big plans: helping to create everyday value for member-owners.

Jane’s candidacy brings a passionate voice for sustainability and social responsibility.

In her election statement, she emphasised her commitment to promoting sustainability in both environmental and social aspects, as well as championing the ethical sourcing of Co-op products.

Jane said: “It’s about doing the right thing – for our communities, for the planet, and for future generations.”

With her background in education, connection to the community, and a forward-thinking approach to ethics and sustainability, Jane hopes to bring a strong local voice to the national stage.

She added: “Being part of a Co-op means being part of something bigger.

“I want to help ensure that every decision we make reflects our shared values and benefits our communities.”

Voting is open to all eligible Co-op members and runs until 12 pm on May 12 and can be done either through the Co-op app or by logging in online at co-operative.coop/get-involved/Council-Elections
