Runner Marie feeling ‘peaky’

AN ANNAN runner is hoping to climb the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales within a single day next week.

Marie Marshall wants to complete the gruelling Three Peaks challenge in under 24 hours on Thursday, April 24, in order to raise money for Annan Day Centre.

And she is undertaking the fundraiser less than two weeks after completing the Boston UK Marathon in Lincolnshire last Sunday.

The three mountains in question are Ben Nevis, Scotland, Scafell Pike, England, and Snowdon, Wales.

Over the course of the challenge, Marie will cover a walking distance of 23 miles, a combined ascent of 3064 metres and a 462 mile drive between the mountains.

She said: “This personal challenge is not just about pushing my limits; it’s about making a meaningful impact for those who rely on the Annan Day Centre. The day centre provides essential support and services to individuals in our community, helping them lead fulfilling lives.

“However, they need our help to continue their vital work. Every donation counts and will directly contribute to the resources and programs that make a difference in people’s lives.

“My continued fundraising efforts for Annan Day Centre’s new home are certainly taking a peak.

“On April 24 I will take on the challenge of climbing the three highest peaks in the UK in under 24 hours.

“Due to the geography of the peaks, the driving time alone takes up about half of this time so this is going to be a tough one.

“After completing Boston Marathon on Sunday I don’t have much recovery time before the challenge but I am determined to keep raising funds for the day centre and will give it my all to achieve the challenge.”

A fundraising target of £500 has been set. You can donate at justgiving.com/page/marie-marshall-9?
