Police plea after A75 crash

AN 18-year-old man is in hospital in Glasgow following a serious crash on the A75 near Carsluith last week.

The crash happened around 10.15 pm on Friday and involved an 18-year-old male pedestrian and a white Ford Transit van.

Emergency services attended and the teenager was taken to hospital. He has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Police officers traced the van, a short time later, on the A75 near to Benfield, Newton Stewart. The 28-year-old male driver and his 33-year-old male passenger were uninjured.

A 28-year-old man was initially arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released pending further inquiries.

Officers say enquiries carried out so far have established the 18-year-old, who was with a friend, had stopped to speak to the occupants of a vehicle on the road prior to the collision and officers are appealing to the occupants of this vehicle to contact them.

Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “We are in the process of piecing together the circumstances of this incident. A young man has been seriously injured and it’s important we find out what happened to him.

“I would urge the occupants of the vehicle that was on the road at the time to get in touch with us. I’m sure the information they have will prove significant in our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3905 of Friday, 18 April, 2025.
