AE wait times still being missed

NEW statistics released show that 4.9% of people waited for over 12 hours to be seen in the A&E in NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

The statistics reflect the week of 13 April, continuing the trend of A&Es failing to meet the timing mandate set by the Scottish Government. The standard is that 95% of patients should be admitted, transferred, or discharged within four hours; the week’s statistics revealed that this was achieved by 74.8% of patients.

“Every single week lives are being put at risk by long waits in A&E. NHS staff are working tirelessly to keep services going and keep patients safe, but they are being badly failed by the Scottish Government,” said South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth.

The NHS released a message on Sunday telling people to only come to the A&E if medical attention is immediate.

Meanwhile, Colin Smyth is calling on the Scottish Government to make the necessary changes.

“John Swinney said he stepped in and took responsibility for fixing the crisis in our NHS, but things are moving in the wrong direction,” he said.
