Beat the drum and help us win!

MIDFIELDER Benji Luissint has called for Queen of the South supporters to come out in their numbers and help the team secure a play-off spot.

The Doonhamers know a victory against Stenhousemuir will secure a play-off place with a game to spare.

And Luissint hopes the fans can pack out Palmerston, bring the noise and beat the drum that goalkeeper coach Jon Connolly donated to the Queens’ young team two weeks ago.

He said: “I hope the fans can come out in their numbers on Saturday because we know it’s a big game.

“The fans give us massive support and can really help us.

“Our goalkeeper coach Jon has donated the younger fans a drum and that’s a good thing because the fans are important for us. Jon did a good gesture for them and hopefully they can use the drum on Saturday.

“We know every game is important and we’re focused on getting the win at Palmerston on Saturday.”

And gaffer Peter Murphy has echoed his player’s views for Saturday.

He added: “We’ve had a really good season at home and we hope to have everybody at Palmerston supporting us to give us the best chance of getting to the play-offs and give them more to cheer about in the coming weeks.

“It’s a massive game, every time we’ve played Stenhousemuir we’ve dominated the games, especially the last time we played them at Ochilview and we lost. We need to right that wrong too. If we can get a good win at home and keep our form going well, it sets us up for the play-offs.”

Luissint played a starring role in Queens’ 3-1 victory over Kelty Hearts last time out.

The Frenchman scored and assisted as the Dumfries outfit finally shrugged off their Kelty hoodoo.

And Luissint’s goal was that extra bit special for him after his close range miss the previous week against Montrose.

He added: “Since my miss against Montrose, I was thinking about it all week. I told everybody that I would score to make up for that. “When the ball came out to me I knew I just needed to hit the target. It was a good goal.

“When I missed last week, I knew I could do better. I was practising my finishing with Colin McMenamin, the gaffer and the players in training all week.

“They want the best for me and I’m happy to repay them with a goal. That’s why I sprinted off to them to celebrate my goal.”

Meanwhile, Murphy hopes to have Taylor Charters back for the Stenny clash but believes Oscar MacIntyre could be out for a few weeks.

The Queens chief also updated fans on keeper Ross Stewart and Adam Brooks – who both were subbed off against Kelty.

Murphy said: “Ross has chipped his elbow and has an infection on it. It was quite swollen and he hasn’t trained all week but wanted to play. He felt sick near the end with the antibiotics and painkillers he was on so we subbed him off.

“Adam took a knock on the back but hopefully that settles down and he’ll be okay.

“Oscar hasn’t trained and he could be out for a few weeks, if not longer.

“We’re going to have to get in touch with his parent club and the normal protocol is that they’ll scan them straight away.

“If they find anything they usually keep them out for two weeks so that’s not good.”
