Finish line in sight on family’s year long fundraiser

A KETTLEHOLM family are rounding off a year of fundraising with their final event next month.

Belinda Vivers will hold a coffee morning in Lockerbie Town Hall on Saturday May 17 in aid of Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary’s oncology unit.

She hopes to raise enough at it to push her annual total to £6000.

It will be the last in a series of fundraisers for the hospital, which she started last May.

Explaining why, Belinda said: “I decided I wanted to fundraise for the oncology unit at DGRI as I have had first hand experience there. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2022 and received chemotherapy at DGRI.

“The staff are absolutely brilliant and do an amazing job, I then discovered that the therapy I received after my surgeries and the support groups I attend are all funded through the NHS D&G Charity. I found all of these therapies and support to be extremely beneficial and therefore I decided I wanted to give back and raise as much money for them as I could over the year.”

So, with the support of her family, she has held coffee mornings, a Christmas craft fayre, a darts tournament in Lockerbie, a race night in Annan, bingo in Gretna and a bowling tournament at St Mungo, all in the last 12 months.

Belinda said yesterday: “I have thoroughly enjoyed every fundraising event I have held, it’s been a great experience and I’ve met some amazing people through it.

“If I had to pick a favourite event, which is hard as I loved them all, I would say the Christmas Craft Fair we held at Lockerbie Town Hall in December last year.

“I would like to thank my family, friends, sponsors and everyone that donated to my fundraising efforts throughout the year, it is greatly appreciated.”

The Vivers’ current total sits at £5388. To donate, go to www.justgiving.com/page/1713864798416 by May 24.
