VIEWS on litter and waste are being sought by Dumfries and Galloway Council from the public.
Residents and businesses are being asked their opinion on littering prevention and the effects it has on the environment locally.
The consultation aims to inform the council’s upcoming Litter Prevention Strategy and Litter Reduction Action Plan and to get the public on board with the Scottish Government’s National Litter and Fly Tipping Strategy, published in June 2023.
Littering and fly-tipping have been a major issue in Scotland, just as in many other countries and regions, for years. This strategy looked at a new perspective on litter and fly-tipping and the ways of which both the public and the council go about fighting it, the aim is to combat it to create a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment in both the local area and in Scotland on a national level.
Councillor Ian Blake said: “We are all responsible for looking after our environment, and this consultation is a vital step in the shaping of a cleaner, greener Dumfries and Galloway. We want to hear from every corner of our region – your ideas, your concerns, your solutions as together, we can build a future where civic pride and environmental care go hand-in-hand.”
All feedback will be compiled into a report for the Economy and Infrastructure Committee in September, where actions will be decided for going forward.
The consultation will run until June 8. Residents can access the online questionnaire via the council’s website or pick up a hard copy from customer service centres.
