Graeme fulfils Fringe dream

EDINBURGH is callin a popular Ecclefechan DJ for a stint at this year’s world renowned Fringe Festival.

Graeme McClelland, also known as BJ the DJ, has been lucky enough to secure a spot to perform on the historic streets of Edinburgh.

And with the gift of the gab Graeme, who turned 49 yesterday, is sure to pull in the crowds to hear him perform quirky Scottish songs from Monday.

With help from the Bon Accords, Haig McCulloch and John Steel, Graeme has drawn up a list of songs to perform including Bonnie Wee Jeannie McColl, Campbeltown Loch, Flower of Scotland, Donald Where’s Your Troosers and even The Ecclefechan Song.

Speaking yesterday, Graeme said: “I applied for a place in November or December and was so excited to get accepted.

“It’s not about the money. I’m not doing it just to make money. It’s to be able to add it to my CV.

“I’ve done a lot of singing but this is just going to be so different — there will be people from Japan, Australia, England, Scotland, everywhere.”

And explaining how he felt when he first attended The Fringe many years ago he said: “I just though ‘wow’, this is just amazing.

“I was just mesmerised by all the different acts. The acting was amazing. It’s been a big part of my life foralong time now and I am so excited to be part of it.”

Over the years Graeme, who was Lockerbie Cornet in 1997, has been supported by his mum Carol. When not performing, Graeme, who is dad to twins Roxy and Riley, is a dairyman.
