Vandals target chapel’s disabled parking

DAMAGE has been caused to four bollards that were erected outside an Annan place of worship a matter of days ago.

VANDALISM . . . bollards erected at the Kingdom Hall in Annan were ripped out the ground earlier this week

Members of the congregation at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is in Downie’s Wynd, were disappointed to find that the bollards, which were only erected last week, had been ripped out of their concrete bases.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Peter Ross said: “The bollards have been ripped out or broken off and thrown in a pile in a corner which is disappointing as it all costs
money.
“It’s unfortunate that someone is unhappy that we have erected bollards to protect our own parking spaces, which are in our title deeds.
“If someone had expressed concerns we could have explained the situation to them.”
Mr Ross says the bollards were sited within the curtilage of the former funeral parlour, which has been occupied by the religious group for 13 years, in a bid to reserve parking spaces for disabled members.

He added: “We’ve found that quite a lot of people tend to park here and block the entrance.
“We’ve a number of disabled people that come here regularly so we wanted to make sure they could get access without having to walk any distance so we decided we would erect bollards.
“We applied to the planners back in January just to make sure it would not create any issues and we got permission to erect bollards in the curtilage of our own property.”
The bollards are to be re-erected following the damage.
