UNIQUE . . . local artist Jo McSkimming with the new memorial wall within Palmerston Park
Families of Queen of the South supporters who have passed away can now have a painting done of their loved ones and then have it added to the wall in surroundings that meant so much to them.
Working in conjunction with the local People’s Project charity and local artist Jo McSkimming, the club have this week launched their unique wall.
The first two paintings were added earlier today and they are of local teenager Jade
Moore and lifelong fan Andrew Frazer.
Artist Jo, of Southerness, has already transformed the walls outside the ground on
Terregles Street with her murals and added a feature to the Queen of the South Arena
with her artwork of past and present players and hopes to add several more.
Speaking passionately about the project, Jo said: “We started the wall so that people who spent so much of their time supporting the club could still be looking out at
the matches, we hope to have a whole wall, that would be really unusual.
“It’s very different and incredibly personal. It’s really moving, I’ve been touched when doing them, touched by the people.
“They are people who were greatly loved and it’s giving them a platform. It’s all to do with the club, that’s why they were here, it’s almost like their soul, the spirit has come back to live at Queens, which is brilliant.”
There is a £100 charge per painting — the cost is for Jo’s time and materials and also
includes a donation to the People’s Project charity.
The football club’s commercial manager Victoria Thomson said: “The club are pleased to be part of such a personal and meaningful project. We’re so lucky to have someone of Jo’s talent — her work is outstanding and captures the image and character of people. It has really helped change the look of Palmerston.”
