A PURGE on street advertising in the centre of Annan has been hailed a success.

Dumfries and Galloway Council have taken action to remove illegal banners and posters which have become increasingly common in the town’s High Street — acting on the urging of the local community council.
Royal Burgh of Annan Community Council vice-chairman Neil MacIntyre said: “Some of the posters were taken down under planning, and the last ones were taken down under road traffic laws.”
Action was prompted when community councillors reported the issue through the new Community Council Enquiries Service.
Mr MacIntyre said: “It went really well, and they were all sorted within 20 days, I might add.”
Pointing to a problem with a skip in the town centre, he said: “I reported an illegal skip in the High Street in front of Marchbanks Bakers and The Anglers which had been there for four weeks.”
Noting that there were no warnings around the skip, which made it difficult to see at night, he said: “It was all dealt with and sorted within 48 hours.”
