At around 6 am this morning police and emergency services attended an accident which involved a car colliding with the column of a bridge on the A74 southbound near Kirkpatrick Fleming.
Two men aged 21 and 22, believed to be from the Oldham area, were declared dead at the scene.
Formal identification is yet to take place.
Diversions were in place and the road re-opened at 12.30 pm.
