Fear for home renewable schemes

In the DG11 postcodes, there have been approximately 4200 solar panels erected on houses, and a further 888 in the Moffat area.
Together they are generating over 1300 kw of energy.
On top of that, there are domestic hydro and wind schemes operating locally too, producing another 37 kw of energy.
The figures have been released by industry body Scottish Renewables, who say they demonstrate Scotland’s ‘love affair’ with home grown energy.
But they are concerned that recently announced cuts to support for small-scale renewables will hit homeowners with such schemes.
As part of a review of the Feed in Tariff scheme, the UK Government plans to cut solar payments by 86 per cent and remove support for wind turbine projects.
Joss Blamire, senior policy manager at Scottish Renewables, described the proposals as “quite simply, terrible news for homeowners”.
He added: “The levels of reduction in support will severely curtail development of small-scale onshore wind and solar projects.
“Support for small-scale renewable energy has enabled the public to share in the recent success of the green energy industry, saving on their energy bills and doing their bit to mitigate carbon emissions.”
