Eden up for trio of festival awards

A BOUTIQUE festival hidden away in the Moffat countryside has been nominated for three awards.

Eden Festival, which attracted nearly 8000 spectators in June, has been nominated for Best Small Festival, Best Grass Roots Festival and Best Family Festival, at this year’s UK Festival Awards.

The 2015 Eden was hailed as the best yet by the organisers and participants, with the likes of The Cat Empire, Ms Dynamite and Grandmaster Flash performing with over 250 acts in the Raehills meadows, along with fun filled entertainment for all the family.

Director Meredith Langley Vine, 25, said: “We are honoured to be nominated and it’s fantastic to get national recognition.

“We are the only Scottish festival in these categories and hope that we can not just represent Scotland, but attract some of the English festival goers over the border. A win could go a long way to doing that.

“Last year we reached the finals, and this time round, fingers crossed, we will go all the way.”

Eden is hailed as a grassroots festival and is known for showcasing homegrown talent, from performers to traders.

Each year over 300 local people from Dumfries and Galloway are involved with the planning and execution of the event.

An economic report into the success of the festival is currently being produced and early indications reveal that £1.5 million was brought into the Moffat area thanks to the outdoor event.

Meredith added: “We are pleased to share that this year’s festival alone brought over £1.5 million to the local area.

“Well done everyone and thank you for being a part of it.”
