Pumped up for national award

A FILLING station in Lockerbie which lay empty for five years has now won a prestigious award in the 2015 SuperStation competition.

Until January 2015, Townhead Filling station lay closed and unloved for over five years. And it was local businessman Ryan Brown who came to the rescue, having grown tired of driving past the site and watching it deteriorate.

Seeing its potential, he made the decision to buy the site and reopen it to the public. Once the acquisition was complete, Ryan oversaw its renovation, with investment in new air machine and vacuum and with more improvements underway.

The site is already proving popular, and Ryan and his team are overjoyed at their recent win in the ‘Best Pace-branded Forecourt’ category in the SuperStation awards.

The competition, now in its fourth year, is open to all Certas Energy-supplied independent petrol retailers.

The entrants are judged for signs of excellence in terms of forecourt appearance, grounds maintenance, diversity of product offering and much more.

The team picked up their award last week at a glitzy ceremony at Heythrop Park, Oxfordshire.

Site manager Lorraine Batey said: “It was a fantastic evening. Thank you to Certas Energy—the award means a great deal.

All the hard work has paid off. “Our customers were excited and congratulated me on making the finals; they’ll be delighted when they find out that we’ve won.”

Certas Energy retail director Ramsay MacDonald added: “This year the judging has been tougher than ever and it has been really heart-warming to hear fantastic stories of the passion and commitment to service by forecourt operators and their staff across the country.

“The competition is a chance to celebrate success and encourage and inspire everyone to push for better standards. “

With SuperStation, Certas Energy is also driving forward the agenda for the independent forecourt operator so collectively we grow the business opportunity.”
