Court hears baby was thrown from minibus

A COURT has heard how a minibus crashed off the M74 north of Beattock and overturned with a baby in a child seat being injured.

The baby was thrown out of the vehicle, landing on the hard shoulder, with other occupants also being injured.

The accident happened in June, and driver Ian Scrivener, 34, was accused in the court at Dumfries on Tuesday of driving carelessly and failing to keep the vehicle under control.

The case was continued without plea to November 3 to allow his solicitor to check a position on possible ‘blackouts’, and Scrivener, from Milton Keynes, gave an undertaking not to drive in the interim.

He did admit driving the minibus while holding a provisional licence and without insurance, and sentence on these charges was deferred to his next appearance.
