Buyer sought for town housing project

Developers are now being offered the chance to purchase the former Carrs Agriculture site at the top of Port Street, which comes with planning permission for shops, flats and a car park.
Pitching the project to interested parties, Shepherd Chartered Surveyors said: “Occupying a prominent town centre location at the western end of the High Street, situated at its junction with Port Street, the properties occupy an enviable and highly visible pitch which fronts the main thoroughfare.”
Planning permission has been granted for three retail units, ranging in size from 750 sq ft to 2660 sq ft, two with High Street frontages, and two upper floor residential flats, all forming part of a larger two storey and attic terraced building.
And Shepherd say that, as part of any future refurbishment or redevelopment project, permission has been granted for the demolition of ‘the majority of the rear projections’.
Previously, site owners Carrs Milling Industries had faced opposition from planning officials over their redevelopment plans. However, their proposals for the site were finally agreed.
Fraser Carson, a surveyor in Shepherd’s Dumfries office, said: “The existing retail units are suited to a variety of uses, subject to obtaining the necessary Local
Authority consents.
“In addition to the existing buildings and new residential houses, planning consent has been granted over the adjacent ground for the erection of three new retail units and associated car parking.”
The entire site is available to be purchased as a whole or in separate lots. And lease offers may also be considered for the retail units.
