Dumfries flat fire victim named

THE man who died in a house fire in Dumfries on Thursday has been named as Michael Farry, 65.

Householder Michael, 65, was rescued by firefighters from his burning first floor property in Dalswinton Avenue at 7.45 am.

But he was declared dead at the scene.

A joint fire investigation is being arranged and police say the Procurator Fiscal has been informed of the circumstances surrounding the blaze, which doe s not appear to be suspicious.

Mr Farry lived alone at the address.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who made a 999 call.

Two fire crews from Dumfries attended and spent three hours at the scene.

They initially used breathing apparatus and were joined later by a specialist fire investigation team.

A local councillor, Graham Bell, later spoke of his sadness at the tragedy.

The North West Dumfries member expressed his condolences to family and friends of Mr Farry.

He said: “I do not know the circumstances in this case but every such tragedy highlights the dangers of fire.

“I would urge householders to take advantage of the advice services offered by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”
