Chemical spill closes A75

A CHEMICAL spillage has closed the A75 at Glenluce this afternoon.

Police report that one person has been taken to hospital in Dumfries as a precautionary measure having been in direct contact with the unidentified substance.

It happened at about 1.40 pm when a bottle containing an unknown substance was found at the side of the A75 at the Glenluce bypass.  Emergency services were called and the road was closed with diversions put in place through the village.

Fire and Rescue Service personnel are dealing with the spillage and are currently awaiting the arrival of specialists in order to identify the chemical.  They stress that there is no risk to the wider public.
