Quilt book raises £5000 for Alzheimer cause

A BOOK of Scottish quilt patterns has raised a staggering £5000 for research charity Alzheimer Scotland.

BOOK BONANZA . . . quilter Ann Hill presents the cheque from sales of her book to Alzheimer Scotland chief executive Henry Simmons, right, as Kilnford Barns Farm Shop owner Jock Rome looks on

Quilter Ann Hill, of Mouswald, decided to compile the book after being inundated with
requests for the quilts, cushions and bags she makes for the cause.
She said: “I couldn’t make enough and most of the folks asking were quilters themselves so I decided to write the patterns and put them into a book.
“Solway Offset, the printers in Dumfries, were hugely helpful in setting it out, showing me how to set the drawings out and making sure the photographs looked professional.”
Five hundred copies of the book were initially printed, and all sold out within the first six months.
And a second batch is now available from the Alzheimer Scotland website or Kilnford
Barns Farm Shop in Dumfries, where they are positioned alongside some of the charity
quilts.
Kilnford owner Jock Rome added: “We are happy to help Ann take her project forward. We have had Ann’s quilts hanging in the restaurant for a long time and I believe it helps raise awareness of dementia.
“It is a step in life that you don’t have to go through alone and Alzheimer Scotland do a good job locally.”
Furthermore, the books will also be on sale at a quilting exhibition and fabric sale in the
McFarlan Memorial Hall, Clarencefield today and tomorrow.
