Quiet Bonfire Night for region’s fire service

Communities have been praised for following advice provided byr the service which recommended the public attend organised events.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “There were no problems at all.
“The general feeling is that we’re pleased with how peaceful a night it was.
“The call that we put out beforehand to attend organised events seemed to have been taken on board, and the communities have helped themselves keep the area as safe as possible.”
He added: “There were other incidents in other areas of Scotland, but certainly Dumfries and Galloway was pretty peaceful.”
The Fire and Rescue Service were aware of 14 small ‘secondary’ fires or bonfires across the region, but note this included organised events.
And they say they have not been notified of any fires or injuries resulting from fireworks on Bonfire Night.
A 15 to 17-minute long fireworks display organised by The People’s Project in partnership with Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club which was due to take place at Whitesands in Dumfries this Sunday November 8 has been cancelled due to poor forecast weather.
