The Matt Murdoch Curling Foundation (MMCF) has announced it will send two junior curlers from Scotland to the Trillium Curling Camp in Canada next year.
MMCF was set up after the sudden death of the keen local curler, Rotarian and past president of The Royal Caledonian Curling Club last year and this latest initiative comes thanks to continued support and funding donated in his memory.
The Trillium Curling Camp is now in its 24th year, hosting 96 junior curlers each week.
The selected juniors will receive coaching from the best coaches from Ontario and across Canada who make the camp a wonderful experience for those involved.
Guest presenters in the past have included Russ Howard, Wayne Middaugh, Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols, Kaitlin Lawes and Scotland’s David Murdoch to name just a few.
The 2016 camp will take place from August 7-12 at the KW Granite Club, Waterloo, Ontario with accommodation at the Wilfred Laurier University.
Meals, accommodation, coaching, ice time, camp picture, shirt, daily bus travel and extra-curricular activities (swimming, bowling, pool hall, a dance and other fun evening activities) are included in the camp.
The costs for the camp will be covered by the MMCF in addition to chaperones to meet those selected on arrival and departure and hosts for any additional accommodation that may be required before or after the camp.
Two spaces have been allocated by the organisers in the advanced category for two curlers who must be aged 15 or 16 at the time of the camp with a strong level of competitive experience.
Of the two allocated spaces, one individual will be selected who curls in Lockerbie.
