And the student behind it is alleged to have been suspended.
The social media page is believed to feature a photoshopped or addled image of a teacher who has been stabbed by a knife.
Confirming an incident is currently being investigated, Community Constable Ian Brownrigg said: “Lockerbie Police are investigating an offensive Facebook page being created in relation to a staff member at Lockerbie Academy. “
Enquires are ongoing at this time to establish the person(s) responsible.”
Issuing a warning about the consequences of social media posts, he added: “The online world is exactly the same as the real world, people should think before they post messages and images and the offence they may cause.
“If they are deemed offensive or abusive then you may be committing a criminal offence and a report may be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The school are currently working with local officers and headteacher Brian Asher said: “Lockerbie Academy are working closely with police to resolve this matter.”
He added: “We work hard to educate our young people about the potential dangers and pitfalls of the Internet. As the police have said, there can be serious consequences from misuse of online freedom. The right to safety online comes with the responsibility to act safely towards others.”
Discussing the incident, a spokesman from Dumfries and Galloway Council said: “The school is dealing with the issue appropriately. It would not be appropriate to make any comment on an individual pupil.”
