Cinderella shall go to the ball

A BORDER events and leisure complex has confirmed the show will go on – despite the severe storm that devastated parts of Carlisle last weekend.

Fears had been cast about the popular Sands Centre pantomime after the venue, which neighbours Hardwicke Circus, flooded last Saturday.
But power has now been restored and an army of staff and volunteers are working hard to ensure that the city’s ‘biggest Christmas show’ can start on Sunday.
Cinderella, which will star former Three Degrees legend Sheila Ferguson and Dancing on Ice winner Sam Attwater, was due to open today but the first three shows have had to be cancelled.
Executive producer Jonathan Higgins says staff at the venue were determined to bring a little bit of normality back to families that have been affected.
He added: “We have seen first hand the devastation caused and our hearts go out to the people affected by the floods which hit Cumbria last weekend.
“We’re so grateful to all of the fabulous people who have dropped everything to help us get the show open. We want to help give families a sprinkle of panto magic during this difficult time.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to our principal sponsors Hallmark Hotel for providing a rehearsal space for our team whilst The Sands Centre was closed. Without their help we would never have been able to prepare for the show.”
