FINAL touches are being put to a free creative event running in the region from next week.
Women’s Art, Women’s Lives will take place at the Quarrymen’s Arts Centre in Creetown from January 31 to February 6.
It is billed as a celebration of women’s creativity, contributions, and role through a diverse range of activities, including art workshops, health and wellbeing talks, yoga and meditation sessions.
Highlights will include creative movement, sound healing, life coaching, diet and nutrition advice, mindful textile sessions, self portraits, addiction help, sea swimming, journalling and dance.
There will also be an exhibition highlighting the stories and achievements of local women past and present in photographs, art, poetry and audio visual installations. Pioneering feminist Mona Caird and the women of Creetown who worked in quarries and mills are featured.
Event organiser Lorna MacPhail, above, who is a holistic health coach and wellbeing consultant, described it as an opportunity to “amplify the voices of women and their contributions and the wealth of talent and wisdom we have in Galloway”.
She added: “This event sheds light on the often-overlooked contributions of women—whether through their creative talents, their resilience in industry and community roles, or their invaluable care within families.
“It’s a chance to come together, share experiences and celebrate what makes us uniquely ourselves.
“Women’s stories haven’t always been as well documented as men’s but this exhibition is a step towards bringing them to life.”
