AN EVENING of international dance will take place next month to welcome new NHS staff from around the world who are coming to work within the region.
The former Debenhams store in Dumfries will be transformed into a ballroom for the event on April 19 and everyone’s invited to kick up their heels and learn some new moves.
The evening will feature Scottish dancing, East coast Swing, African dancing, Salsa, Indian Dancing and will finish off with a few traditional ceilidh dances.
Organisers NHS Dumfries and Galloway and Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association hope the community will join in to welcome the new recruits and celebrate cultural diversity.
Vic McDade from the NHS said: “We’re so pleased to be welcoming an increasing number of new staff from around the world who are coming to work in Dumfries and Galloway.
“Our new additions come from countries including India, Philippines and Africa and will be playing important roles within nursing.
“This event is not only a fantastic chance to meet and get to know our amazing group of international staff who have recently joined us at NHS Dumfries and Galloway, but also celebrate one year of the international recruitment campaign that was set up to attract nurses to our region and reduce shortfalls.
“We all felt the best way to do this was by having fun, and the best way to have fun is dance.”
All levels of dancers are welcome as each set will start with a tutorial followed by a dance.
Food won’t be provided but they hope participants will bring a dish from their native country to share.
Admission is free, but places should be reserved at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/an-evening-of-international-dance-tickets-559624701547
