OVERNIGHT closures have started on a stretch of the A7 south of Canonbie.
The road is shut between 7.30 pm and 6 am every night to allow for resurfacing of 1.3 kilometres between the border and just north of the B7201 junction.
It is scheduled to be in place Monday to Fridays until October 18.
Diversions are in place via the B6357 to Kirkpatrick Fleming, the B7076 through Gretna, and the A6071 to rejoin the A7 at Longtown. However, this will add an estimated 16 minutes and ten miles onto affected journeys.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Tommy Deans, from BEAR Scotland who are doing the work, said: “It’s essential for the safety of motorists and the workforce that we close the A7 while we resurface this stretch of road.
“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however if you do need to use this route while work is taking place, our advice is to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time for your journey.
“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding while we complete these improvements.”
