A709 to close for roadworks

A BUSY road in Lockerbie is to be closed later this month for major roadworks.

Carriageway strengthening, resurfacing works and bridge repairs are scheduled on the A709 Dumfries Road from the flyover to about Grant Avenue.

They will start on Monday July 25 and are expected to take five days to complete.

During that time the road will be fully closed, starting at 9 am on the Monday and running until 6 pm on the Friday, July 29.

Diversions will be put in place via the B7076, A701(T), A75(T), A709 and vice versa.

Meanwhile, light vehicles, up to 7.5T, will be sent eastbound via the B7076, U338a Muirhead and C91a – Westbound via C91a, C93a Hallburn, C92a Peatford, B7076.

However, residents’ vehicles will be permitted throughout the surfacing works, although there may be delays.

Council officials are requesting that vehicle movements are kept to a minimum and have suggested that residents move their cars to a different location outwith the work site, if possible. This would then allow them to carry on without disruption.

A spokesman said: “It should be noted that all access and egress will have to come from the Lochmaben side of the works as no access or egress will be given over the flyover.”
