A75 set to close at Eastriggs for essential resurfacing

DRIVERS are set for a weekend of diversions as the A75 is set to close between Annan and Gretna for essential resurfacing works.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A75 at the Eastriggs Junction from Friday January 31 until Thursday February 6.

This work will require a full weekend closure at this location from 8 pm on Friday January 31 until 6 am on Monday February 3, followed by overnight closures between 8 pm and 6 am each night between Monday February 3 and Wednesday February 5. Traffic management will be removed by 6 am on Thursday February 6.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted via the B6357 Stapleton Road south after Annan, then they will be directed to turn left onto the B721 and continue through Eastriggs to re-join the A75 west of Gretna.

Westbound traffic will follow the route in reverse.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

In a press release, AMEY said: “The safety of our workforce, the site, and the travelling public is of utmost importance when planning road maintenance.

“A convoy system cannot be implemented during this scheme due to available road widths, which fall below the legal requirements to ensure the safety of road users and road workers.

“The absolute minimum width required for convoy working is 7.3 metres as per Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations. A closure of the A75 trunk road is also required due to the depth of treatment being carried out.”

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
