Abandoned van mystery solved

THE mystery of who owns the abandoned van at Lochmaben Bowling Club car park has been solved.

Police officer Stephen Glendinning confirmed the van is registered to somebody down in the Manchester area but they haven’t been able to contact the owner.

He said: “It’s one where we have to refer to the council for looking at lifting because it’s clearly an abandoned vehicle. The insurance, tax and MOT have all expired.

“We know who the owner is but we can’t get in contact with him. We don’t have the power to force entry into the vehicle unless we believe there’s an issue with it for example it’s been used for a crime or someone is in there.

“Someone had reported that the van was flooded due to the recent weather.”

However, community council chairman Colin Davidson added a plot twist to the ongoing van saga as he stated the vechile has been turned round recently.

He added: “The van has been turned around. When I first reported it it was facing the other way.”
