Ace start for city Cents

AN AMERICAN flag football team with a number of players from Annandale has enjoyed an incredible start to their second ever season.

The Carlisle based Border City Centurions have made a trail-blazing kick-off, finding themselves catapulted to the top of Division One.

Boasting a 6-0 winning record so far, the Cents have been busy on the road since Easter raiding Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Salford and Clyde for wins.

The fledgling club also scooped their first ever silverware last weekend at the Victory Bowl in Warrington.

They won the finals after overcoming a gruelling group stage against Nottingham, Leeds, Warrington and Rosendale. It’s been the perfect start to the season,” said Cents head coach, Annan’s own, Nigel Weston.

He added: “We have an aggressive plan for the year, hitting the ground running at full-pelt and knocking out some Goliath’s of the game before they knew what hit them. So far, so good.”

This Saturday in Carlisle the team will face their toughest challenge yet, as the second ranked team in the north of England and both the first and second Scottish top-seeds come down to Harraby to attempt to dethrone the boys in gold.

Also, the Centurions U16 squad will be looking to match the seniors as they take on Dumfries for the borderland bragging rights.
