A NEW group dedicated to helping Lockerbie look its best has meet for the first time.
And members are getting ready to roll up their sleeves and hit the streets.
The inaugural launch meeting of the new Lockerbie Civic Pride was on Tuesday night at the town hall with community councillor Roger Claymore leading the charge.
He said: “I wanted to put this group together to tackle some of the issues in the town, like the state of the streets with weeds, repairing some of the plant pots, cleaning of pavements and street furniture because right now there’s very little pride in the town because it’s being looked after.”
The meeting was well attended with 15 people volunteering to lend a hand and Roger continued: “I was very pleased with the number of folk who came along on Tuesday, it’s nice to have a decent number of people say they’ll help out and I’m looking forward to seeing them all again at our next meeting.
“I think our first job will be tackling the weeds on the high street and giving the street furniture a good clean because it’s time we start turning words into action.”
The date of the next civic pride meeting is still to be confirmed.
