CHAPELCROSS has been suggested as the ideal location for an Artificial Intelligence zone.
It emerged as a proposal during yesterday’s big budget setting meeting at Dumfries and Galloway Council. The Labour group had included it as a key project in their budget and Annandale North Cllr Carolyne Wilson flagged it up to members.
She said: “AI is already a part of our life and will only play a larger role in our economy and society. That is why our budget proposal will commit the council to submit an expression of interest for Chapelcross to locate an AI growth zone. With clean power generation locally and its existing link to the National Grid, this could be a prime location, in the process attracting high skilled, high paid jobs to our region.”
While Labour’s budget was not adopted for the next year, the proposal was included in the official motion agreed by all councillors and it was agreed to submit an expression of interest.
