STRANRAER moved to eighth in League Two, eight points clear of bottom club Forfar, following a terrific 2-0 home win against Spartans last Saturday.

A debut goal from Sean Docherty and last minute strike from Ryan Edgar clinched the points at Stair Park.

And the Blues were set to go again on Tuesday in a massive crunch clash against the league’s bottom side.

But heavy rain at Stair Park led to postponement of the match in the early afternoon.

Blues boss Chris Aitken said: “We were very disappointed, but there’s nothing we can do. It was a game we were really looking forward to, off the back of a really good performance on Saturday.

“It wasn’t to be, we will put it to bed and deal with it when the fixture comes back around.

“The players had a well deserved night off on Tuesday.

“I thought we were great on Saturday, I was delighted with how we went about the whole game.

“I thought from the defence, to the midfield and the front two, all of the guys got pass marks.

“We know the performances are in there and it’s important we try and get a wee bit of consistency.

“Taking six points out of nine is not a bad week.”

This Saturday Aitken’s men travel to ninth place Clyde as they bid to move further away from the SPFL trap door.

The manager said: “It’s important we take the Spartans performance into this Saturday.

“We know if we can go and get a positive result we’ll move up the table yet again.

“We know it’s going to be a really tough run in, but it’s one we’re really looking forward to.”
