STRANRAER defeated League Two play-off hopefuls Edinburgh City 2-0 at Stair Park in their penultimate home fixture last weekend.
Max Guthrie opened the scoring for the hosts at the end of the first half with a powerful header at the back post.
And Deryn Lang doubled the advantage four minutes after the interval with a neat finish from close range.
With safety secured, and the play-offs out of reach, Blues boss Chris Aitken wants to see his players show some pride in their final games.
He said: “It was a well deserved three points, the pleasing aspect was the level of performance.
“Edinburgh City are a top top side, and they will be a real handful in the play-offs.
“From a personal point of view it was really good to get the boys to go and put a performance on. We knew last week the job was done (staying in the division), but we still want to go and put a performance on.
“I told the players I needed to see what sort of pride they had, I didn’t want the last three games just to peter out.
“They came in today and put a real top performance in. I thought the back four were outstanding.
“The frustrating thing there is the four games we lost, because it could have been a real exciting end to the season.”
The Blues face the long trip up to Elgin on Saturday afternoon in their penultimate game of the campaign.
Aitken added: “I’m not worried about anyone else, I’m worried about Stranraer Football Club.
“We’ll prepare this week and I want to go there and win. I’m a winner, I want to keep on winning.
“I want to play on the front foot. My guys are in a good place just now. Overall it’s been a good last five or six months and my guys deserve all the credit.”
