Annan flats future in question

TWO blocks of flats in Annan could be demolished as part of a regneration scheme.

Wheatley Homes are considering the future of 35 and 37 Fernlea Crescent and that could including knocking them down.

Housing officers visited residents in the 12 properties on Monday to kick off a consultation process that will ultimately lead to the regeneration of that part of Newington.

The householders said it was the first they had heard about the plans, which follow on from similar projects in the Lochside area of Dumfries, where some demolition has taken place.

They are now being encouraged to take part in the consultation process and give their views about their own area.

A Wheatley Homes South spokesperson yesterday said: “We’re really keen to hear from tenants and residents in Annan about these exciting regeneration proposals for the area.

“We want tenants to tell us what they think and help shape the new-look community and surrounding area – their voice will be key.”

She noted a misprint in the leaflet and stressed the consultation does not finish this week, as written, but will run for another four weeks.

“Our consultation, which is being supported by the independent Tenant Participation Advisory Service, closes on Monday 19 December,” she added. “Tenants can complete our online form, speak to their housing officer, email or call us direct. We’re also holding drop-in sessions in January and we hope that these will be well attended by tenants and residents.”
