TACKLING child poverty has been included as a special priority in Annandale and Eskdale’s anti-poverty spending plans for the year ahead.
Measures to address drug and alcohol abuse will also be prioritised as Annandale and Eskdale area committee members weigh up allocating grants to community groups.
A total cashpot of £42,426 will be made available for local organisations who are seeking grant funding support. This is an increase of £8100 on last year’s allocation.
Those which can demonstrate they help to tackle child poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, and mental health have a greater chance of scoring highly when being assessed.
It is being proposed that applications will be open from June 4 and the deadline will be on July 30.
Scoring panel assessments will then be done on September 17 and councillors will ultimately make the final decision on allocations on September 25.
