Archie in awe at support from region

A WELL known councillor and former soldier faced a battle of his own this week.

Archie Dryburgh, who represents the Annandale East and Eskdale ward, had surgery on Monday to remove a brain tumour.

The operation was successful and he returned home yesterday to rest, before further treatment next month.

Well wishes have been flooding in for him from across both the region and the political spectrum.

And Archie has thanked everyone for their concern, describing it as a “very humbling and wonderful response.”

He has vowed to be back helping people as soon as possible, both in his roles as an elected member and veterans’ champion for the region, including his involvement with Legion Scotland and the Veterans’ Garden Dumfries.

Another priority is growing back his beloved, trademark moustache which had to be shaved for the procedure.

Archie said: “There is no doubt this is a fight and I’m up for it. Whilst I will need to focus on recuperating, I will still help where I can.”

Meanwhile, daughter Jade has set up a crowdfunder to help with her dad’s recovery.

Writing on her justgiving page, she said: “As everyone is aware, dad has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour, one of the most aggressive kinds. After surgery there will be a lot of recovery in place.

“We are all aware of how many charities dad supports and now I think it’s time to give back, whether it be for something he wants or whether he wants to chose something to donate it to himself.

“It’s just a little something to show how much support and love he has around him just now.”

Offering an update on his progress yesterday, Jade told this paper: “He has done amazing, we are so proud of how good his recovery has been.”
